Art Weekend Adventure: another 21/2 full day weekend workshop in October for The Glasgow Girls in more Ways of Looking. I’d been watching the forecast with dread; it was to be grey. Tricky planning for the right location with the right light and no wind. In The Barn with it’s fabulous grey walls, mixing grey playfully in jam jars, getting our eye in for those lemon silver streaks, pewter storms, jade seas, lilac mists, blackcurrant islands I knew too well were out there. We mixed 69 shades of grey! Then sped to the end of the peninsula to catch that late afternoon light to paint gamely on The Pier, finishing just 5 minutes too late as the mists drenched our acrylic panels to curious effect.
Saturday: mark making by simple printing and mono-printing to loosen up, experiment and learn to love the haphazard marks. I love watching your handwriting grow as you get more confident with no time to think. Down to the shore after a late lunch to try another seascape paint. Acrylic on rough toothed cloth paper I bought back from the Dutch Windmill in Holland, all whilst getting flooded by this year’s biggest tide!
Sunday: Chalks and dead fish heads! Gutsy chalk drawings because I think you had to look and not presume this local subject matter. Splashy loose play with inks on water colour paper working with flooded brushes and bamboo pens Great oyster images. Finally to round off our Art Adventure a calmer last session making collages with our paper greys. Fantastic energy, inspiration, giggles! Typically the light was sensational just when you left; apricots and powder purple greys at last.
